A disciplinary hearing has found a teacher guilty of unacceptable professional conduct after he allowed two pupils to ride a sledge.
Technology master and departmental head, Richard Tremelling, 37, let two 15-year-old boys slide down a slope in school grounds on a racing sledge.
Mr Tremelling denied unacceptable professional conduct and told the hearing he had carried out a 'mental risk assessment' and had ridden down the small slope behind Swansea's Cefn Hengoed Community School himself before allowing the boys to have a go.
The boys used the sledge for 10 minutes without incident.
At the hearing, Rosa Fernandes, presenting the case, said: 'He used the sledge on snow-covered slopes at the rear of the school. He failed to carry out appropriate risk assessments and failed to provide a written risk assessment. He didn't ensure pupils were wearing protective headgear and clothing.'
Mr Tremelling said the boys had asked to try the sledge after he had shown it to them.
He said: 'I told the first boy to follow the track marks that I'd laid out, which he did. I wanted to demonstrate sledge control so moved to a different slope. I went first, turning at the bottom. It was a bit fast so the child started from halfway. The whole process took less than 10 minutes and I was sure it reinforced their knowledge.'
Mr Tremelling now faces being struck off.
